![]() Jude goes to law school and becomes close to one of his professors named Harold. His mother is a professor (or a teacher?) and his father died when he was young. He’s of Haitian descent and has two lesbian aunts who dote on him. JB is a painter (though at the start he’s trying to make sculptures from hair). He eventually marries Sophie, another architect, and his partner at the firm. ![]() He joined an architect’s firm called Ratstar(?) and lives with his parents but later forms another group with his architect friends. He’s also biracial and not comfortable identifying as white or black. Malcolm’s father is a lawyer(?) and he feels he’s a disappointment to the family. Willem quickly rises to prominence as an actor after a few roles. He was autistic, I think? He just didn’t have much in common with his parents and they die a few years later as well. Willem cut all ties with his family after his older brother by eight years, Hemming, died. He shares a one-bedroom apartment with Willem. He cuts himself regularly and feels he’s not worth anything. He’s two years younger than the rest but really smart. Jude walks with a limp and it’s understood that he was in a car accident as a child. Jude is an aspiring lawyer, Willem–an actor, JB–an artist, and Malcolm–an architect. Jude, Willem, JB and Malcolm are best friends who went to the same college. The story of four friends which gets sadder and sadder with every page. ![]()
